Pallone Applauds Automakers’ Deal with California Preserving Clean Car Standards

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 25, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement in response to Ford, Honda, Volkswagen and BMW striking a private deal with California to preserve clean car standards, despite the Trump Administration’s attempts to roll them back:

“This is a victory for consumers, the automotive industry, public health, the environment and common sense. As our recent hearing demonstrated, the Trump Administration’s proposed rollback is extreme, lacks support from the industry, and would cost tens of thousands of American jobs. I’m happy our hearing brought these parties together and helped pave the way for this agreement.

“As we tackle the climate crisis, it’s imperative that auto companies have predictability and consumers benefit from innovation and more efficient vehicles, and this agreement helps ensure that happens. Every automaker has the opportunity to join this agreement, and I encourage them to do so. This deal should form the basis for federal policy, and I will be working to make sure it does."
