Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 am in Room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building on product hopping in the pharmaceutical market. The hearing is entitled, “Profits Over Consumers: Exposing How Pharmaceutical Companies Game the System."
“While many innovative prescription drug reformulations provide important benefits to consumers, blatant gaming by manufacturers can harm consumer access to drugs. This anti-competitive conduct is just another way for these companies to prioritize profits over consumers and force Americans to pay higher prices for prescription drugs," said Pallone and Schakowsky. “The Federal Trade Commission has taken some action against these anti-competitive tactics, but more can be done to protect consumers from deliberate product hops that perpetuate monopoly pricing of drugs. We look forward to learning more next week about how this issue affects consumers and exploring ways for Congress to fix this problem."
Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witness list and testimony, and a live webcast, will be posted HERE as they become available.
