Walden Seeks Details from E&C Majority on “100 by 50” Climate Plan

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Oct. 1, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) is seeking further details on the Democrat plan to “achieve a 100 percent clean economy by 2050." In a letter to Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Walden requests further information on the goals of the proposal and the means to achieve those goals, and calls for bipartisan solutions to protect the economy and the environment.

“While this goal matches a lot of the rhetoric of the Green New Deal and Democratic presidential debates, we would need more details to understand the path ahead on your proposal and likewise, to help inform stakeholder participation," Walden wrote. “We want to work with you, but serious policymaking requires more than a tag line. We need greater details about what you really want to accomplish. Maybe we will find the answers in upcoming hearings, but we would certainly appreciate a clearer explanation of your goals and how you propose to meet them?"

Under Republican leadership, the Energy and Commerce Committee passed bipartisan legislation to boost clean energy, clean up nuclear waste, and protect clean water and clean land. Earlier this year, Walden called on Democrats to continue this bipartisan work from the last Congress to pass commonsense, bipartisan solutions to address current and future climate risks while also bolstering America’s economy.

Walden renewed that call today.

“We know we can work together, as we did last Congress, to protect our economy and our environment," Walden said. “We remain eager to work with you on thoughtful policy development at this Committee to address climate risks."
