The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Oct. 16, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 am in 2322 Rayburn House Office Building on the need to significantly curb greenhouse gas pollution from non-light duty vehicles. The hearing is entitled, “Building a 100 Percent Clean Economy: Solutions for Planes, Trains and Everything Beyond Automobiles."

“The free-flowing transportation of people, goods and services is essential to our modern society and economy. Yet as substantial emitters of carbon pollution, heavy-duty trucks, buses, planes, trains and ships present unique and pressing challenges in our fight to combat climate change. We must come together to develop decarbonization solutions that increase fuel efficiency, maintain mobility and support a thriving economy," said Pallone and Tonko. “We look forward to hearing from experts on how Congress can facilitate and support a cost-effective transition to a 100 percent clean economy within this vital sector."

The hearing represents the fourth in the Committee’s series of climate change hearings aimed at developing comprehensive legislation to achieve a 100 percent clean economy by 2050. Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witness list, testimony and a live webcast will be posted HERE as they become available.
