WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Republican Leader John Shimkus (R-IL), and Energy Subcommittee Republican Leader Fred Upton (R-MI) praise the inclusion of increased environmental protections in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020.
“We acted to safeguard the American people and the environment today-from funding for reducing PFAS in drinking water in rural and economically distressed areas, to requiring the federal government to enter into cooperative cleanup agreements for federal facilities with PFAS contamination, and much more. However, we are disappointed two provisions to protect our environment were left out-one would have required the EPA to set a national drinking water standard on two chemicals within two years, and the second would have mandated the Department of Defense to clean up DOD sites contaminated with PFOA or PFOS."
