Pallone Condemns FERC Action to Boost Fossil Fuels at the Expense of Ratepayers and the Climate

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Dec. 19, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement denouncing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) vote to upend states’ clean energy plans by favoring fossil fuels over clean sources of energy:

“Today, FERC is handing a literal lump of coal to New Jersey and other PJM states that are trying to tackle climate change, grow clean energy jobs and reduce costs for consumers. With this action, FERC is continuing to prop up the failing fossil fuel industry at the expense of both ratepayers and our environment. This is a potential death blow for states’ clean energy plans and may actually be the beginning of the end for organized electricity markets in general. The Trump Administration’s allegiance to fossil fuel interests seemingly knows no bounds."
