Pallone Denounces Trump Administration’s Rollback of Lightbulb Efficiency Standards

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Dec. 20, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) condemned the Department of Energy’s (DOE) announcement that it is finalizing a rollback of lightbulb efficiency standards:

“It saddens me to see that Dan Brouillette’s first major action as Secretary is perpetrating President Trump’s senseless, backwards efficiency policies. The facts on this are indisputable, and Secretary Brouillette knows as well as I that lightbulbs that adhere to Obama-era standards use 75 percent less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. Gutting these standards only allows inefficient products to remain on the market, harming both consumers who will end up paying more on their electricity bills, and our environment, which will witness significant increases in carbon pollution. No one but a small handful of manufacturers stand to benefit from this reckless rollback, but that is always where this Administration’s loyalty has been: to industry over people."
