Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the two subcommittees will hold a joint hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 10 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 Rayburn House Office Building on assessing the environmental impacts of wildfires and ensuring our energy infrastructure is prepared to address their growing severity. The hearing is entitled, “Out of Control: The Impact of Wildfires on our Power Sector and the Environment."
“Record-breaking wildfires have devasted several states, most notably California, and left countless Americans without power, homes or any sense of certainty about the future. As the climate crisis exacerbates these fires, we must ensure the federal government is prepared with a robust response and that our nation’s energy infrastructure is capable of meeting this growing and dangerous challenge," said Pallone, Rush and Tonko. “We’ll examine what must be done to mitigate the impact of these wildfires and how Congress can help ensure a more resilient energy sector."
Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witness list, testimony and a live webcast will be posted HERE as they become available.
