Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced an update to the Agency’s Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science proposed rule:
“Administrator Wheeler’s latest attempt to restrict the use of sound science in EPA’s decision-making ignores the criticism their last proposal received - both from the public and from the Agency’s own scientists - and runs contrary to numerous statutory requirements that EPA rely on the best available science.
“Since key health studies have long been conducted with the promise of confidentiality, this proposal as a whole would tie EPA’s own hands and effectively ban it from using critical studies that demonstrate the consequences of pollution on human health. This proposed rule proves beyond any doubt that the Trump EPA would rather protect its industry allies than Americans’ health."
