WASHINGTON, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) released the following statement after the Small Business Administration (SBA) provided clarity that certain hospitals are eligible for relief through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
“This is great news for community-owned hospitals around the country, and I thank SBA for their work to provide this clarity. The PPP is a tremendous resource, and we know it’s already saved millions of jobs. I hope small businesses, including our health care providers, will continue to take advantage of this important relief," said Walden.
Background: The SBA rule states that, “a hospital that is otherwise eligible to receive a PPP loan as a business concern or nonprofit organization shall not be rendered ineligible for a PPP loan due to ownership by a state or local government if the hospital receives less than 50% of its funding from state or local government sources, exclusive of Medicaid."
