Washington, DC - Today the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) passed their 5G Upgrade Order to provide clarity to American wireless providers so they can more quickly deploy 5G infrastructure across local communities.
Last week, Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Communications and Technology Subcommittee Republican Leader Bob Latta (R-OH), and 16 of their Republican colleagues wrote to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai in support of the order.
“The Commission passed strong rules during the last decade to put Section 6409(a) into effect, which helped upgrade our networks to 4G. Now, wireless providers are moving to win a global race to deploy advanced, 5G networks, so it is time for the Commission to revisit these rules and to find ways to speed 5G deployment. This proposed Order would provide needed guidance and clarity that will help our communities benefit from greater connectivity and keep innovation in America.," the Committee leaders wrote at the time.
The Committee Republican leaders were joined in penning the letter by Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA), Pete Olson (R-TX), David McKinley (R-WV), Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Bill Johnson (R-OH), Billy Long (R-MO), Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Bill Flores (R-TX), Susan Brooks (R-IN), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Tim Walberg (R-MI), Buddy Carter (R-GA), and Jeff Duncan (R-SC).
