Washington, D.C. - At today’s markup, the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced 30 bipartisan bills across three subcommittees.
E&C Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Energy Subcommittee Republican Leader Fred Upton (R-MI), Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX), and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Republican Leader Bob Latta (R-OH) released the following statement at the conclusion of the markup.
“Throughout the pandemic, the Energy and Commerce Committee has been working tirelessly to help our nation respond to COVID-19 and keep committee business moving. These bills would improve the Strategic National Stockpile and help stop fake COVID-19 tests and medical devices from falling into Americans’ hands. We are proud the committee also advanced several bills that would improve Americans’ mental health, including bills that would strengthen access to mental health services and help prevent ‘deaths from despair.’ On the energy front, we moved bills to help deploy various forms of energy including energy efficiency, natural gas, and hydropower, and to send much-needed resources to Tribes. Finally, we also advanced bills to bolster U.S. leadership in 5G, cybersecurity, media diversity, and spectrum management. Moving these 30 bills to the full House for consideration can help improve the lives of many Americans who are struggling in the midst the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are proud of this bipartisan work. We hope the House will take up these important bills quickly," said Walden, Upton, Burgess, and Latta.
