Washington, D.C. - Today the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced 38 bills to the House floor for consideration. This builds upon the bipartisan progress the committee made in July when 30 bipartisan bills were reported to the full House for consideration.
E&C Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Communications and Technology Subcommittee Republican Leader Bob Latta (R-OH), Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX), Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Energy Subcommittee Republican Leader Fred Upton (R-MI) released the following statement.
“As American workers and families are working to navigate this difficult time, we have been listening. We have also heard from essential workers on the front lines, public health experts, and many others about how we can best help with the challenges caused by this pandemic. Today we advanced bipartisan bills related to health, consumer protection, energy, and communications - all topics important to both the pandemic response as well as Americans’ everyday lives.
“The majority of these bills will strengthen public health to help mitigate the impact of this public health crisis. As our concerns grow about the pandemic’s impact on Americans’ mental health and the addiction crisis, legislation passed today will expand access to needed services for Americans, including students. We also advanced legislation to support children’s health, protect seniors from late fees in Medicare, and remove barriers so Native American Tribes can access important public health data. The committee also agreed to legislation to protect vulnerable communities, ensure the United States will be the global leader in emerging technologies, improve the National Nuclear Security Administration’s management, and promote microgrid projects in rural areas.
“While much progress was made on our shared priorities, we are disappointed that legislation on autonomous vehicles and data protection were noticeably missing at today’s markup. We are also hopeful an agreement will be reached soon to help advance and promote media diversity in the broadcast industry. We thank our colleagues in the majority for their commitment to these issues and look forward to working with them to find an acceptable path forward," said Walden, Latta, Burgess, Rodgers, and Upton.
