Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO) announced that the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) on the search for a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine the public can trust. The hearing is entitled, “Pathway to a Vaccine: Ensuring a Safe and Effective Vaccine People Will Trust."
“A successful COVID-19 vaccine must be safe and effective, but it must also be allocated equitably and earn the trust and confidence of the public," Pallone and DeGette said. “This hearing will build on the Subcommittee’s oversight hearing in July when we heard from the leading manufacturers developing potential vaccines for the coronavirus. Next week, we will hear from scientists and public health experts on criteria for approving a vaccine, plans for equitable distribution, and what can be done to overcome declining public trust amid fears the Trump Administration will prematurely approve a vaccine."
This hearing will take place remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
