Washington, DC -Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the House passed four bipartisan Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee bills.
“As bad actors and scammers continue their efforts to take advantage of U.S. consumers, we must not back down when it comes to ensuring the safety of Americans and of consumer products," said Walden and Rodgers. “Today, the House came together to support four bipartisan efforts to keep Americans safe, promote the integrity of horse racing, protect consumer products, and ensure U.S. leadership in emerging technologies. We thank our colleagues for supporting these bills and urge our Senate colleagues to take swift action on these measures."

Today, the House of Representatives passed:
* The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020 (R. 1754 ), introduced by Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chair Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY), which would establish the Horseracing Anti-Doping and Medication Control Authority as an independent, private non-profit corporation with responsibility for developing and administering an anti-doping and medication control program for certain race horses;
* The Consumer Product Safety Inspection Enhancement Act (R. 8134 ), introduced by Consumer Protection and Commerce Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), which would support the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s capability to protect consumers from unsafe consumer products;
* The Consumer Safety Technology Act (R. 8128 ), introduced by Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Michael Burgess (R-TX), which would direct the Consumer Product Safety Commission to establish a pilot program to explore the use of artificial intelligence in support of consumer product safety; and,
* The American COMPETE Act (R. 8132 ), introduced by Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Energy Subcommittee Chair Bobby Rush (D-IL), which would ensure U.S. leadership in emerging technologies.
