Washington, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY), and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX) released the following statement after Russian ransomware attacks targeted hundreds of U.S. hospitals.

“To attack hospitals, especially during the COVID pandemic, and threaten the health and safety of vulnerable Americans is heartless and cruel. These attackers should suffer the full fury of American capability. We must ensure our networks are secure from foreign and domestic threats and that bad actors targeting the U.S. are held accountable. Our networks must be protected from cyberattacks, particularly as hospitals and health care providers share important and timely information during COVID-19. We also cannot forget that Russian hackers have repeatedly targeted the U.S. These recent ransomware attacks on U.S. hospitals during a pandemic are another demonstration that Russia is no friend to the United States, and we urge the administration to continue taking strong, decisive action against bad actors targeting the U.S.," said Walden, Rodgers, Guthrie, and Burgess.
