Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY), and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Republican Leader Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine, allowing it to be distributed across the country.
“Thanks to the groundwork we laid in the 21st Century Cures Act, the innovation of the private sector, and the Trump administration’s leadership on Operation Warp Speed, we now have three safe and effective vaccines. Their warp speed development in less than one year is a remarkable testament to American innovation and ingenuity.
“This emergency use authorization for Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine will boost our supply and put us on an even stronger path to crush this virus, save lives, and get people back to work. It also means there will be no more excuses to keep our schools closed.
“To fully restore hope and our way of life in America again, President Biden must be bolder and more ambitious with his plans to get more people vaccinated as quickly as possible. Republicans on Energy and Commerce stand ready to work with the Democratic Majority to achieve this goal and get more shots in people’s arms."
