Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the Health Subcommittee will hold a fully remote legislative hearing on Wednesday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). The hearing is entitled, “An Epidemic within a Pandemic: Understanding Substance Use and Misuse in America."
“The tragic increase in drug overdoses and fatalities over the last year shows that the isolation and economic hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic have severely exacerbated the pre-existing substance use disorder epidemic in America," said Pallone and Eshoo. “Congress must consider additional legislative action to provide Americans the help, treatment, and care they need to recover from this difficult time. We look forward to hearing from Acting Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Regina LaBelle and other experts on the current state of the epidemic and what more must be done legislatively to combat it."
This hearing will be conducted remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
