Radicalism is Back (Or Did It Ever Leave): Leader Rodgers on the Democrats’ Renewed Push for the Green New Deal

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 20, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Energy & Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on Democrats’ plan to reintroduce the Green New Deal-the latest push to advance their socialist agenda and a complete government takeover of the economy.

“The Green New Deal is a socialist agenda that will ruin America’s economy, destroy jobs, and will ultimately lead to government control over every part of our lives-from what we eat, how we heat our homes, to the cars we drive. If it’s like what they proposed before, it will cost American families tens of thousands of dollars, including sky-high, unaffordable spikes in energy bills.

“Whether it’s the Green New Deal, the CLEAN Future Act, or President Biden’s plan to eliminate good-paying energy jobs, the Left is on a mission to control our lives, destroy America’s economy, and cede our energy security to China. In order to win the future, we must unleash American innovation and not impose government mandates that will cripple our economy. House Republicans are leading with an all-of-the-above approach to energy, including solutions in our Securing Cleaner American Energy agenda. Our agenda will modernize and improve our energy infrastructure and promote an all-the-above energy strategy across the board, including solutions to unleash innovation in hydropower, nuclear, clean coal, and natural gas. Unlike the Green New Deal, the Securing Cleaner American Energy agenda is a real, workable solution to keep energy affordable and reliable, reduce emissions, prioritize energy security, and protect American workers."
