Biden Caves and Lets California Drive Emissions Standards Across the Country

Washington, D.C.-Republican Leader for the House Energy and Commerce Committee Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on President Biden’s plan to allow California to set fuel standards and dictate vehicle emissions regulations across the country.

“By allowing California to set stricter-than-federal emissions standards, President Biden is once again prioritizing a rush-to-green environmental agenda over the needs and well-being of hardworking American families," Rodgers said.

“The federal fuel economy standards enacted by Congress and implemented by the Trump Administration helped to achieve fair, uniform standards across the country. President Biden plans to undo this work and double down on a patchwork of standards that do not prioritize safety or help modernize the cars and trucks on our roads. The cost of new vehicles will rise and American families will be forced to continue driving older, less safe models. If the Biden Administration is serious about road safety, affordability, and securing a cleaner American energy future, he should not be allowing California to dictate the vehicles people drive in Indiana, South Carolina, Ohio, or in eastern Washington."
