Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chair Mike Doyle (D-PA) announced today that the Communications and Technology Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Thursday, May 6, at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) on the disparities that exist in accessing affordable, reliable high-speed internet. The hearing is entitled, “Broadband Equity: Addressing Disparities in Access and Affordability."
“Underserved communities - particularly low-income communities and communities of color - have long faced systemic barriers when it comes to accessing high-speed internet and reliable connectivity," Pallone and Doyle said. “At next week’s hearing, we’ll examine the ways that a lack of affordable, high-speed internet service marginalizes racial and ethnic minorities, further undermining access to economic, educational, and social opportunities. We will also explore ways to fix the problem so we can make internet accessibility and affordability a reality for all Americans."
This hearing will be conducted remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
