E&C Announces Oversight Hearing on Humanely Caring for Unaccompanied Children on June 9

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on May 26, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO) announced today that the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Wednesday, June 9, with Acting Assistant Secretary JooYeun Chang at the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) at the Department of Health and Human Services for an update on caring for unaccompanied children.

“The Biden Administration inherited unprecedented immigration challenges and is now tasked with humanely caring for and processing unaccompanied children seeking refuge," Pallone and DeGette said. “We are grateful to the civil servants at ACF and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) who are working around the clock to care for these children and place them with a sponsor as quickly and safely as possible. This hearing will provide us an opportunity to hear from the Administration about the current challenges and to ensure that ACF and ORR receive the resources and support they need to properly care for these children."

Additional details will be announced next week.
