Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a markup on Wednesday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. via Cisco Webex video conferencing. The Subcommittee will mark up legislation to increase access to safe, affordable water and protect Americans from PFAS contamination.
“Access to safe drinking water is one of our most fundamental human rights, yet millions of Americans across the country are unable to trust the water coming out of their taps. That is simply unacceptable," Pallone and Tonko said. “Likewise, dangerous PFAS chemicals are contaminating everything from our water to our household supplies, and the devastating health risks this poses can no longer be ignored. We are determined to pass legislative solutions that will protect Americans from these toxic substances and ensure every community has the safe drinking water they deserve."
This markup will take place remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the markup via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the markup begins.
The Subcommittee will consider the following bills:
H.R. 3291, the “Assistance, Quality, and Affordability Act of 2021," which was introduced by Chairman Tonko;
H.R. 3293, the “Low-Income Water Customer Assistance Programs Act of 2021," which was introduced by Reps. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) and John Katko (R-NY); and
H.R. 2467, the “PFAS Action Act of 2021," which was introduced by Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Fred Upton (R-MI).
