Rodgers and Guthrie Statement on 2021 Medicare Trustees Report

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Aug. 31, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C.-Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) released the following statement regarding the 2021 Medicare Trustees Report.

“Once again the Medicare Trustees are reporting that the program seniors rely on for their health care is imminently insolvent. Yet, at this very moment, Democrats are planning to raid Medicare’s Trust Fund to create duplicative benefits and funnel billions of dollars to their socialist priorities in a tax and spending spree. It’s incredibly irresponsible and a recipe for disaster.

“Medicare’s long-term structural issues have been swept under the rug and made worse for far too long. These alarming issues require thoughtful action- not more radical and reckless political opportunism that lurches America closer to a complete government takeover of our health care system. Medicare for All really is Medicare for None, and it will fail to meet patients’ needs. Democrats must take this report seriously and work in a bipartisan way to strengthen, modernize, and preserve Medicare for seniors today and for future generations."
