Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement regarding the Congressional Budget Office’s table of Energy and Commerce provisions in the tax and spending spree.
“The Democrats’ tax and spending spree is not paid for. It will make President Biden’s energy and inflation crisis worse. It’s a grand socialist agenda for the federal government to recklessly spend and print trillions of dollars on the backs of American families.
“Today, CBO further exposed the Energy and Commerce provisions in the tax and spending spree will add $281 billion to the deficit, which doesn’t even take into consideration the added deficit spending from other committees. The total impact will be far worse. The tax and spending spree hurts seniors by spending nearly $37 billion on a duplicative new Medicare benefit, when the program is already on the brink of insolvency and already offers these benefits in Medicare Advantage. It also slashes nearly $35 billion from hospitals that are trying to care for our country’s most vulnerable patients. Based on this analysis released today, we don’t know how many people will lose their health insurance or how many fewer cures and treatments will come to market over the next 10, 20, 50 years if this becomes law. Patients in need of hope deserve full transparency. In addition, the tax and spending spree spends more than $80 billion to shutdown American energy and advance a radical climate agenda that is raising energy costs on families. The natural gas tax will especially hit families hard as they already face surging energy bills to heat their homes this winter. Finally, rather than address President Joe Biden’s supply chain crisis, the Democrats plan to spend billions on slush funds with no guard rails to advance their partisan agenda."
“All this threatens people’s livelihoods and futures. It’s reckless spending for the federal government to have more command and control. It’s not the will of the American people."
