ORLANDO, Fla. - Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in (SAC), Drug Enforcement (DEA), Miami Field Division, and Pam Bondi, Attorney General of Florida, announced today that on Sept. 27, 2013, Jose M. Perez, (Miami, 39) also known as “Goofy," was found guilty of racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, and directing the activities of a criminal gang after a three week trial in Orange County. Perez faces life in prison, and will be sentenced on Oct. 25, 2013.
Perez has been a member of the “Almighty Latin King and Queen (AKLQN), also known as the Latin Kings since 1986. From 2008 to 2010, Perez was the second crown or second in charge of the Florida tribes. Perez oversaw gang activity such as murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, burglaries, drug trafficking, false imprisonment, kidnapping, violent acts causing permanent disability and disfigurement of numerous victims. The AKLQN is the largest and one of the most organized street gangs in the United States. They are known for their structured hierarchy, by-laws, code of conduct, and use of extreme violence.
From February to March of 2010, Perez and 13 other AKLQN members were charged and arrested in this investigation. Perez is the last defendant to be convicted.
This four year investigation, which began in 2006, was conducted by the DEA with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Melbourne Police Department. SAC Trouville commends the prosecution efforts of the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
