Chairman Kerry On The President’s Meeting With Members Of Congress On Libya

The following was published by the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on March 25, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) released the following statement:

"This afternoon, President Obama provided senior policymakers from both parties a very thorough and substantive update on where things stand in Libya. Encouraging progress is being made in enforcing the UN Security Council Resolution and protecting the Libyan people, and the President's briefing was especially instructive for all of us. It was a candid discussion that also covered the important contributions from members of the Arab League, and the transition to NATO which fulfills the President's policy of keeping the U.S. military role limited. In my judgment, there's been smooth communication and appropriate consultation between Congress, the President, and members of his Administration thus far, whether it has been through these calls with the President himself or through conversations with his team as I've been traveling and gathering information from our allies. I look forward to continued discussion, and to addressing the situation in Libya in depth at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Thursday."
