Blinken spoke today with Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong regarding Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine. Secretary Blinken discussed details of President Biden’s announcement of additional strong sanctions and new limitations on what can be exported to Russia and reiterated the importance of cooperation with allies and partners to impose severe costs and consequences on Moscow. The Secretary thanked Foreign Minister Chung for the ROK’s unequivocal condemnation of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and President Moon’s commitment to join the international community’s sanctions, along with coordinated efforts to ensure the stability of oil and energy markets. The Secretary and Foreign Minister reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-ROK Alliance and reiterated the need to stand with the international community in demanding the Russian Federation stop its war on Ukraine.
