The following is attributable to Spokesperson Ned Price: Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman spoke today with Spanish State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs Angeles Moreno Bau. They underscored the need to continue our strong and unified response to Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, including sweeping economic sanctions and export controls imposed by the United States and the European Union. They also discussed the importance of continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people and reiterated their strong support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Deputy Secretary thanked Spain for hosting the upcoming NATO Summit in Madrid in June and for their willingness to collaborate on global security issues, including COVID-19 and cyber security threats.
