Kline Statement on February Jobs Report

The following was published by the House Committee on Education and Labor on March 4, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement upon the release of the Department of Labor’s employment report for February 2011:

“While the creation of 192,000 new jobs in February is encouraging, we still must do more to promote economic growth and stability.

“For too long, leaders in Washington have allowed government spending to spiral out of control, racking up record deficits and an unprecedented $14.1 trillion in national debt. As Speaker Boehner recently said, we’re broke going on bankrupt. And a bankrupt country cannot create jobs or foster a stable environment for investment.

“That’s why my Republican colleagues and I are determined to roll back federal spending, cut taxes, and support a pro-growth environment for families and businesses. This week, we approved a temporary provision that will fund the government for two weeks and cut spending by $4 billion. And we will continue passing these provisions until our Democratic counterparts work with us to enact a comprehensive, responsible budget that our country can afford. We stand with the American people, ready to make the tough choices necessary to end the uncertainty and put our nation back on the path to prosperity."
