***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Foxx and Gowdy to Host South Carolina Field Hearing on Higher Education and Job Growth Initiatives

The following was published by the House Committee on Education and Labor on Aug. 12, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

On Tuesday, August 16th at 1:00 p.m. EST, Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) will join Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) in South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District for a field hearing entitled “Reviving our Economy: The Role of Higher Education in Job Growth and Development." The field hearing will take place in the Carolina First Gallery at Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR), located at 5 Research Drive in Greenville, South Carolina.

A quality higher education system and a strong workforce are vital to America’s success in an increasingly competitive global economy. Both areas require flexibility and adaptability; they rely on constant innovation to keep pace with rapid changes. As we work to improve higher education in the nation and encourage lasting economic growth, the committee is actively seeking input from communities to learn about local solutions to education and workforce needs.

The field hearing will feature two panel discussions. The first panel will examine the local economy and job opportunities, while the second panel will focus on the ability of higher education institutions to successfully prepare graduates to join the workforce.
