Today, U.S. Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, and U.S. Rep. John Kline (R-MN), Chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee announced that they will hold a conference call for members of the media tomorrow, Sept. 11, 2012 at 3:00 PM.
On the call, Chairman Camp, Ranking Member Hatch, and Chairman Kline will discuss the recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) analysis that confirmed the Obama Administration circumvented Congress to waive bipartisan welfare work requirements.
The GAO analysis, which was requested in July by Hatch and Camp, found that the Obama Administration’s recent decision to grant itself the authority to waive federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) work requirements that were a critical element of the welfare reforms enacted in 1996 qualifies as a rule. As a result, it must be submitted to Congress and is subject to review and potential disapproval under the Congressional Review Act.
