Foxx Statement on Administration's Title IX Action

The following was published by the House Committee on Education and Labor on Feb. 23, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, today issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration's Title IX action:

No administration should circumvent the law to advance its own political agenda, but that's exactly what the Obama administration did with this so-called guidance. Schools that refused to follow this unilateral decree would have risked losing funding intended to support low-income students and families. This is a very personal issue, and it warrants a public discussion that takes into account all viewpoints - including those of the students, teachers, parents, and education leaders it affects the most. I commend the Trump administration for doing what's right in withdrawing this guidance so that parents and educators can work together to provide an appropriate learning environment for all students.
