Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act:

“With the passage of tonight’s bipartisan legislation, we are taking action to help Americans suffering from the health and economic consequences of the coronavirus.

“Additional resources coupled with increased flexibility will help those most in need receive their benefits - including access to meals for our seniors and children.

“In times of economic growth as well as in times of crisis, Congress should always work to ensure that the federal government meets its obligations to the American people.

“But as we work to address the challenges of this growing problem I want to remind my colleagues of the words so aptly written by the Wall Street Journal earlier this week, ‘government’s role in this crisis should be to address a genuine short-term hardship, not to permanently expand the size of government and the burden on taxpayers.’"
