Today, President Donald Trump signed into law the Supporting Older Americans Act of 2020 (H.R. 4334), bipartisan legislation that reauthorizes the Older Americans Act and helps provide social and nutrition services to older Americans, empowering our nation’s seniors to live independent, high-quality lives.

“Today, President Trump signed into law a bill that reflects our nation’s steadfast commitment to the well-being, health, and dignity of older Americans. We have an obligation to protect the most vulnerable among us during these unprecedented times. This legislation will help provide critical resources to older Americans who are particularly at risk due to COVID-19. H.R. 4334 is not only a reauthorization of the Older Americans Act, which has helped provide social and nutrition services to older Americans for more than 50 years, but it’s also a tribute to what Congress can accomplish when bipartisanship and meaningful collaboration overcome politics," said Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC).

“The North Country is home to one of the largest constituencies of older Americans in the country, and I’ve been honored to lead the effort to ensure they have the support and dignity they deserve in their elder years. I’m grateful the final bill included critical provisions from three pieces of my legislation: to enhance individualization in caregiving, give those diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s equal recognition under the law, and ensure our country’s Holocaust survivors are given specialized care for their unique needs due to the unconscionable suffering they faced. I’m grateful to President Trump for signing the Supporting Older Americans Act into law, which will directly benefit seniors in my district," said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

“Our senior citizens have spent a lifetime supporting our communities and raising future generations, including my own. That is why it is so important to me that we care for them through the services provided in this bill, including the Meals on Wheels program and caregiver support services. As a lead Republican co-sponsor of this initiative, I was proud to help lead this effort to benefit our nation’s seniors, and want to thank Republican Leader Virginia Foxx for her hard work on this and many other issues," said Congressman James Comer (R-KY), Republican Leader of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services.

“For years, the OAA has provided a diverse range of services for older Americans with the greatest social or economic needs. As someone who helped introduce this bipartisan bill, I’m proud to support the reauthorization of many critical services - like Meals on Wheels - to more than 41 million older Americans. Seniors deserve their independence, and I’m grateful the president signed this important bill into law," said Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-SD).
