Today, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Republican Leader of the Committee on Education and Labor, issued the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s (DOL) proposed rule which establishes criteria for determining whether workers are employees or independent contractors under the Fair Labor Standards Act:
“The flexibility and opportunity offered in our modern economy by the independent contractor model cannot be understated. Workers today can utilize their skills and leverage their entrepreneurial spirit while having the flexibility to work around a schedule that meets their needs. I applaud the Department of Labor’s effort to modernize the law and provide necessary clarity to workers and employers alike. Unlike Congressional Democrats who advocate for an old-fashioned, one-size-fits-all employment model, the Trump administration has proven to be a champion for the American worker. I commend Labor Secretary Scalia for recognizing the need to address this important economic issue which impacts millions of American workers and for doing so in a transparent manner that will allow DOL to receive public feedback on the proposal."
