Biden’s Deafening Silence on Charter Schools

Today, Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement after President Biden broke with a decades-long tradition by failing to issue a proclamation in support of National Charter Schools Week, a move that comes after months of putting political allies over students:

“I am extremely disappointed that the Biden administration has decided not to issue a proclamation in support of National Charter Schools Week this year, especially given that it is the 30th anniversary of the first charter school law. Since that first law was passed, every president has issued a proclamation in support of National Charter Schools Week. After decades of bipartisan support, it is heartbreaking to see a President so brazenly ignore the 3.3 million students using their educational freedom to succeed in a public charter school and the millions more who desperately want that same opportunity. Nothing short of total support for charter schools, which are crucial to helping low-income students get a high-quality education, is acceptable."
