Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on President Biden’s one year of catastrophic failures:
“President Biden’s catastrophic policy failures have already stabbed America in its back many times over - and it’s only his first year. Biden’s actions have made the American people less free, secure, and prosperous than a year ago. It should come as no surprise that this administration bends its knee to special interests rather than acting upon the will of the American people.
“Skyrocketing inflation, nationalizing education, learning loss, a supply chain crisis, and labor shortages only skim the surface of the ruin that this administration has created. The forecast ahead is grim at best.
“The American people demand unwavering leadership and accountability - not a president who is bedfellows with union bosses and far left interests. One year of economic and societal ruin caused by this administration has many Americans feeling the overwhelming effects of buyer’s remorse. We simply cannot afford to continue down this path."
Biden’s Top Education Disasters
Advancing Critical Race Theory (CRT)-inspired curriculum: In May of 2021, the Department of Education proposed a rule that would have injected CRT curriculum in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act despite overwhelming opposition from parents who believe CRT is inappropriate for elementary-aged children.
Putting teachers unions’ demands above students’ needs: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ceded its authority to union bosses so that they could dictate school reopening guidance - a cowardly act that put the educational pursuits of America’s future leaders in jeopardy.
Weaponizing the federal government to target parents: After parents made their voices heard at school board meetings over shutdowns, masks, and curriculum Education Secretary Miguel Cardona solicited a letter from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) that served more as a tactical scheme against parents. In turn, Attorney General Merrick Garland circulated a memo asking the FBI to probe complaints against parents. The FBI created a taskforce to track parents, which included setting up a threat tag system. The NSBA has apologized for its letter, yet AG Garland has not rescinded his memo and the FBI has yet to announce the dismantling of its taskforce.
Botching student loans: Bowing to pressure from the progressive wing of the Democrat Party, President Biden extended the student loan repayment pause for a third time. By the time this latest extension ends, it will have cost taxpayers over $150 billion - the largest subsidy in the program’s history. If Americans are expected to pay their mortgage, credit card bills, and car loans, why shouldn’t they be expected to make payments on student loans?
Making radical changes to Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF): The Biden administration’s expansion of PSLF is a purposeful misinterpretation of Congress’ intent to keep this program narrow. The left is using this program as a vehicle to further its radical student loan forgiveness agenda. Taxpayers, especially those who have already worked hard to pay off their own student loans, should not be the ones to shoulder this burden. Nor should the hard-working Americans who chose not to go to college be expected to shoulder other people’s student loan debt.
Biden’s Top Workforce Disasters
Mandating a tyrannical vaccine diktat: If the Supreme Court had not halted OSHA’s vaccine-and-testing mandate, it would have fundamentally changed the relationship between the federal government, workers, and businesses. Forcing employers to become the vaccine-and-testing police is nothing short of authoritarian. Workers should be able to make their own health care decisions with their doctors without fear of losing their jobs.
Pushing the PRO Union Bosses Act: President Biden openly supported the PRO Act, which would have outlawed right-to-work laws, enhanced the power of union bosses, and forced workers to support political organizations they disagree with. Taking away the rights of workers to make their own choices goes against everything this country stands for. President Biden’s priority should be empowering the American worker-not unions.
Attacking religious freedom: The Department of Labor’s proposed rescission of religious liberty protections for federal contractors is extremely disappointing. The important rule that is in place now provided much needed clarity to religious federal contractors on their rights and obligations. Without this rule, religious organizations could once again face discrimination when seeking federal contracts.
Removing union transparency requirements: The Department of Labor issued a final rule eliminating reporting requirements that provided transparency to labor organization finances and union boss spending. Allowing union bosses to hide behind a veil of secrecy does a disservice to the workers these unions claim to represent.
Removing Senate-confirmed NLRB General Counsel: Removing General Counsel Peter Robb before the expiration of his four-year, Senate-confirmed term was vindictive and unprecedented. It created unnecessary chaos at the National Labor Relations Board and demonstrated how much political power President Biden is willing to exert over a supposedly independent agency.
