Subcommittee Will Hold NextGen Air Traffic Control Roundtable

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on Feb. 25, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

The Subcommittee on Aviation, chaired by U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), will hold a roundtable policy discussion on Thursday on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) efforts to address the NextGen Advisory Committee’s (NAC) recommendations for developing the United States’ NextGen air traffic control system.

Over the last decade, the FAA has been planning for, developing, and implementing NextGen. While the FAA has made some progress, the agency has also experienced significant setbacks, including cost overruns and program delays. In July 2013, the FAA tasked the NAC with reviewing the agency’s plans and activities that have an effect on the NextGen implementation and develop a prioritized list of consensus recommendations. Thursday’s roundtable will examine the FAA’s implementation of the NAC recommendations.

The roundtable is open to the public, and is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building. The roundtable will not be webcast.

In addition to Subcommittee Members, roundtable participants will include:

Mr. Michael Whitaker, Deputy Administrator and Chief NextGen Officer, Federal Aviation Administration

Mr. Matt Hampton, Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Aviation, Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General

Captain Steve Dickson, Co-Chair, RTCA NextGen Advisory Committee
