Next Thursday, the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials will hold a hearing to examine the implementation of the PIPES Act of 2016 and matters relating to oversight of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
The PIPES Act, the most recent reauthorization of PHMSA, sought to enhance pipeline safety and increase transparency by requiring the agency to update Congress every 60 days on progress toward completion of statutory mandates on pipeline safety. The Subcommittee will hear testimony from the agency’s Administrator on the status of the Act’s implementation and the status of outstanding mandates from the 2016 and 2011 reauthorizations, as well as from industry stakeholders.
The hearing of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, chaired by U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), is entitled “PIPES Act of 2016 Implementation: Oversight of Pipeline Safety Programs." The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
