Sept. 16, 2019 - The Dairy Margin Coverage Program offers dairy producers protection for when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a dollar amount they select.
An operation with an established production history of 3 million pounds that elected the $9.50 coverage level on 95 percent of production, for example, already has received $15,437.50 in margin payments - January through July - while only paying $4,275 in premiums for all of 2019! (Margin payments also could be triggered for some or all of the subsequent months of this year.)
