Sacramento Man Sentenced for Firearms Trafficking Offenses

The following press release was published by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Dec. 6, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Dejon Andrade, 27, of Sacramento, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Garland E. Burrell, Jr. to 15 months in prison for unlawful dealing in firearms and a concurrent sentence of 15 months in prison for illegal transportation of firearms acquired outside of state of residency, announced U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and Joseph M. Riehl, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), San Francisco Field Division.

According to court documents, Andrade used a Nevada ID to buy guns in Nevada. Andrade was prohibited from purchasing or possessing guns in California because of a probation condition, but was able to buy firearms in Reno by providing false information on his federal firearm purchase paperwork (ATF Form 4473). Between November 4, 2012, and Jan. 20, 2013, Andrade purchased nine handguns during five separate transactions at a gun dealer in Reno, Nevada and then transported those firearms to Sacramento, California. Andrade resold five of these firearms without having a license to do so.

According to court documents, on Feb. 11, 2013, Elk Grove Police Department recovered a Ruger, Model P94,.40-caliber pistol, from a suspect who was arrested after taking police officers on a vehicle pursuit, followed by a foot pursuit. While attempting to run away from law enforcement officers, the suspect discarded the firearm that he was carrying on his person. The suspect is a validated gang member. A subsequent records check revealed that the recovered firearm was purchased by Andrade on Jan. 15, 2013, in Reno.

This case is the product of a joint task force investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and the Sacramento Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Justin Lee prosecuted the case.
