The following press release was published by the Senate Committee On Energy & Natural Resources on July 28, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - On Monday, July 31, 2006, Senate Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Pete V. Domenici will join Senator Mary Landrieu, D-LA, and leaders of industrial natural gas users to discuss the nation’s urgent need for the natural gas and oil in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. They will outline why S. 3711, the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act is the most important thing Congress can do in the near-term to stabilize energy prices and increase supply. The Senate is expected to hold a cloture vote later that day on S. 3711, bipartisan legislation that will bring 1.2 billion barrels of oil and 5.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas to market, reducing America’s dependence on sources of energy from unstable regions of the world.
