A new funding opportunity is available for government entities and other organizations looking to launch small-scale water efficiency projects.
According to a Feb. 24 announcement from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the WaterSMART Small-Scale Water Efficiency Projects program will pay half the cost of water efficiency and irrigation improvement projects led by water districts, states, tribes and other entities with water authority.
“Today’s announcement illustrates how the funding provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will allow Reclamation to leverage and amplify successful and proven tools," Bureau Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Tanya Trujillo said in the announcement. "These additional funds will expand the number of on-the-ground projects and further support western communities to improve water conservation and reliability.”
A webinar was held March 9 with more information on the opportunity, including eligible applicants and program requirements. More information is also available by searching grants.gov, for opportunity number R22AS00195. Applications are due April 28.
"These small, community-led projects can help western communities address some of their water management issues," said Reclamation Acting Commissioner David Palumbo. "The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is allowing us to reach many western communities where they have identified a need but not necessarily the funding to complete the work."
