President Joe Biden and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced March 3 the USDA would be investing more than $166 million across 108 infrastructure projects as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to building back better, and this starts with our infrastructure," said Vilsack. "Protecting our watersheds and saving lives is paramount. These investments in our watershed programs will provide much needed support for communities to build resilience in the face of climate change."
The USDA will be working with local communities across 23 states to invest in new flood prevention projects and repairs to existing infrastructure. This initial round of funding will prioritize communities that have been historically underserved as well as communities impacted by natural disasters such as droughts.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was signed in November 2021 by Biden and has provided $918 million for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service's various watershed programs, among other infrastructure projects.
