The largest national trade association for the trucking industry joined President Joe Biden’s 90-day Trucking Apprenticeship Challenge to get more well-trained drivers into good-paying jobs.

The secretaries of Labor and Transportation announced March 1 they were joining a partnership with the American Trucking Associations.

“We appreciate the American Trucking Associations joining the effort to expand registered apprenticeships to meet the needs of the nation’s employers while connecting workers to good-paying jobs and a path to middle-class wages and opportunities,” Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh said.

The association will work to get the program adopted across its membership to increase the number of drivers who take advantage of earn-as-you-learn training, the news release said. Helping them get good jobs strengthens the supply chain, which in turn, improves the economy.

The national registered apprenticeship program for truck drivers is designed to enhance industry training and safety standards and support the recruitment and retention of drivers in good trucking jobs. This new program will drive the adoption of apprenticeships across the association’s employer membership which will expand access to quality training for more workers to connect them to good jobs. This will strengthen the nation’s supply chains while expanding the economy.

The American Trucking Associations is the largest national trade association in the trucking industry.
