A new partnership was formed aimed at preventing worker injuries during construction at the University of Alabama's Medical West project.
The partnership is between the Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Brasfield and Gorrie Construction along with the University of Alabama SafeState.
“Public-private sector partnerships focused on worker safety and health training at all levels are a proven method to enhance worker safety during major construction projects,” OSHA Area Office Director in Birmingham Ramona Morris said in a release.
The Medical West construction project in McCalla is a nine-story, 413,988-square-foot hospital, according to the release. It will also have a central energy plant, medical office building and a five-story parking deck on 26 acres. Once finished the facility will have 260 beds.
Through the initiative, contractors also are encouraged to implement safety and health programs. The strategic partnership would also provide safety and health training to employees, employers, and supervisors.
