Mobile, AL - A fugitive roundup operation conducted on June 10th - June 13th targeting federal felony warrants in the Southern District of Alabama, resulted in the arrest of 20 federal fugitives, many of them with violent or dangerous backgrounds.
Led by the U.S. Marshals, with the assistance of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the United States Probation Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, many hours were devoted to the identification, location, arrest, and prosecution of outstanding federal felony offenders.
Of the 20 individuals arrested, 17 were Supervised Release Term violations, and 3 were ATF indictments. The roundup also netted one gun seizure, which the ATF is currently investigating.
The fugitive roundup is an effort by the U.S. Marshals Service to support the U.S. Attorney’s “Project Safe Neighborhood" initiative, by removing wanted, often dangerous, fugitives from the community, thus providing a safer environment for all of the districts citizens.
Mark Sloke, U.S. Marshal for the Southern District, stated about the operation, “This law enforcement operation was safely and successfully completed and 20 federal fugitives, among the worst of the worst, were apprehended and taken off the streets. One illegal firearm was seized from a felon. I’m very proud of the men and women of the United States Marshals Service who put their lives at risk daily while doing their job. I want to extend my appreciation to our Federal, State and Local partners who assisted in this operation, particularly, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives, and the US Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force."
The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is comprised of the Alabama Department of Corrections, Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole, Atmore Police Department, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department, Mobile Police Department, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Monroeville Police Department, Prichard Police Department, Harrison County, MS Sheriff’s Office; Jackson County, MS Sheriff’s Office; Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
