Scranton, PA - A U.S. Marshals fugitive task force in New York this morning arrested a 19-year-old Scranton man wanted for sexual assault of a child.
On June 20, 2018, the Scranton Police Department obtained an arrest warrant charging Quintin S. Smith with statutory sexual assault after it was alleged that he engaged in a sex act with a 12-year-old. Attempts to find Smith in Scranton were unsuccessful and the U.S. Marshals Service was asked to apprehend him.
At about 5:45 a.m. today, the fugitive investigation led members of the task force to an apartment in the 900 block of Rev. James A. Polite Avenue, Bronx, New York, where Smith was arrested without incident. He was turned over to the New York Police Department to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
“The U.S. Marshals Service recognizes the importance of bringing those charged with serious sex crimes to justice as quickly as possible," said U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Pennsylvania Martin Pane. “We give these types of cases our utmost attention. It is my hope that the victim and family members will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody."
The USMS Fugitive Task Force is composed of 20 state and local police agencies, including the Pennsylvania State Police and the Scranton Police Department - both of whom participated in this arrest.
