Concord, NH - Shortly after being featured this morning as the “Fugitive of the Week," Robert Wood, 80, was located at a nursing facility in the Manchester, NH area. Mr. Wood was being sought for failing to register as a sex offender. Wood is required to register as a sex offender as a result of a 1994 conviction for five (5) counts of felonious sexual assault on a victim under the age of sixteen (16).
Wood had been featured just this morning as the “Fugitive of the Week." This feature was aired on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link, the Rochester Voice and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive of the Week" continues to be a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of numerous fugitives since its implementation in 2007. Additionally, the “Fugitive of the Week" is distributed statewide to all law enforcement officers.
After the feature was aired, the Manchester Police Department received a telephone call from Mr. Wood’s guardian confirming the whereabouts of Mr. Wood at a local nursing facility. At this time Mr. Wood’s registration status has been updated and the warrant has been withdrawn due to his physical incapacitation.
Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 7,751 arrests (Updated as of 07/25/2019). These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
